Uruguay national team coach, Marcelo Bielsa, sparked widespread controversy after his harsh statements against the United States of America, the organization of the 2024 Copa America.
This came during a press conference held after the semi-final match against Colombia, where Bielsa criticized what he described as the “plague of liars” running the tournament.
Bielsa expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of security that the players and their families were subjected to, noting that the players had to face the fans to protect their loved ones.
He also criticized the condition of the temporary grass fields, describing them as incomplete, in addition to the low quality of the training fields, as he pointed out that the Bolivia national team faced difficulties due to the poor equipment of the fields.
Bielsa also revealed that Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni, was threatened after criticizing the quality of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Bielsa directed his criticism in particular at the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), stressing that the organization of the tournament was far from professional, and he considered these conditions to be an embarrassment.
Bielsa’s statements received a positive response on social media, with many users considering her brave and frank.
It is noteworthy that the Argentina national team won the 2024 Copa America title after defeating Colombia with a clean goal.
