The US State Department has pledged $47 million in new humanitarian aid to Sudan and neighboring countries, including Chad and South Sudan, to respond to emergencies.

The pledge brings total U.S. humanitarian assistance to Sudan and neighboring countries to more than $968 million since fiscal year 2023, the department said in a statement.

Sudan has been fighting a devastating war since April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has killed thousands of Sudanese and displaced about eight million others.
