The United States Embassy in Libya announced that Washington will provide $ 4.5 million to Libya’s Sabha airport, through the Aviation and Airport Security Program in Libya of the US State Department’s Office of Counterterrorism.

This came in a meeting between US Special Envoy Ambassador Richard Norland, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Joshua Harris, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Libya Jeremy Brent, and Undersecretary of the Libyan Ministry of Transport for Air Transport Khaled Souissi, during which the United States support for strengthening Libya’s civil aviation sector and airport security was reaffirmed.

“The goal is to build Libya’s ties internally and with the rest of the world,” the U.S. embassy said in a statement, adding: “This funding will promote stability in southern Libya, create more economic opportunities, and enable Sabha airport to expand its operations as an aviation hub.”

The embassy said that since 2018, the United States has allocated more than $ 20 million for airport security in Libya, and that about 3,000 officials from Libyan airports attended training courses funded by the United States, including 300 women.
