The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency announced the arrest of a Libyan citizen in San Francisco as part of a national operation targeting human rights violators, and he will be deported to Libya.

The agency explained that the operation, which took place from June 10 to 14, resulted in the arrest of a fugitive wanted for his role in human rights violations.

“The accused is engaged in activities that cause significant harm and retaliation against his fellow citizens without regard to due process,” said Moises Becerra, director of the Office of Enforcement and Deportation Field Operations in San Francisco.

Becerra confirmed that the accused entered the United States fraudulently in an attempt to evade justice, and that he is currently detained awaiting deportation.

Becerra pointed out that all those detained during this operation were issued final orders of deportation and are subject to deportation to their countries of origin. Since 2014, the Enforcement and Deportation Operations Directorate has conducted nine operations targeting known and suspected human rights violators, with the goal of identifying, investigating, prosecuting, and deporting those individuals seeking safe haven in the United States.

The Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is the primary federal authority responsible for enforcing immigration laws. Its mission is to protect the homeland by arresting and removing individuals who undermine the safety of communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws.
