The UN Security Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday (February 15th) to review developments in Libya, which is organized every two months to review the latest developments in the country.
The meeting kicks off with a speech by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Mission in Libya, Abdullah Batele, who will review the UN efforts to support Libya’s stability, improve security and humanitarian aspects, as well as the UN’s plans to move forward with the political process.
Ambassador Yamzaki Kozuki of Japan, in his capacity as Chairman of the UN Libya Sanctions Committee, will also participate in the session, who will brief members of the Security Council on the progress of the Committee’s work, in addition to the participation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the review of the United Nations periodic report on Libya.
The meeting comes in light of strong international and regional aspirations towards achieving peace and stability in Libya, as the international community aspires that UN and international efforts will contribute to advancing the political process, holding postponed presidential and parliamentary elections, and achieving national reconciliation.
