The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has successfully evacuated 119 refugees from Libya to Italy, as part of its ongoing efforts to find durable solutions for the most vulnerable refugees.

According to a statement issued by the Commission on its official Facebook page, this operation comes as part of a broader plan to relocate an additional 1,400 refugees from Libya to Italy over the next three years.

This initiative is a lifeline for these refugees, providing them with new opportunities for safety and stability.

The Commission stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between European countries and the Libyan government to ensure the provision of legal and safe pathways for refugees.

It also called on host countries to shoulder their shared responsibilities and work alongside the Commission to achieve durable and effective solutions for refugees fleeing conflict and persecution.

This step comes as part of broader efforts to share the burdens and responsibilities related to refugee protection at the international level, which the Commission considers a vital element in ensuring the rights and protection of refugees.
