The United Nations Support Mission in Libya expressed its deep concern over the recent actions taken by some political parties and institutions in the country, which it described as unilateral.
The mission warned that these actions exacerbate tensions and threaten to undermine mutual trust, as well as deepen institutional divisions and rifts between Libyan communities.
In a statement issued by it, the mission stressed the urgent need to reach a common understanding and enhance dialogue and unity among Libyans, especially at this critical stage.
It also noted the need for political leaders and relevant institutions to adhere to the pledges signed within the Libyan Political Agreement and its amendments, which are in line with UN Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2702.
The mission also confirmed that it is continuing its consultations with Libyan leaders and regional actors to work on finding a consensus that contributes to resolving the current political stalemate.
The mission announced its commitment to supporting a comprehensive political process leading to credible presidential and parliamentary elections, calling on all Libyan parties to adopt dialogue and reach settlements that serve the interests of all citizens.
It is noteworthy that the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, voted unanimously in its official session on Tuesday to end the term of the executive authority and its head, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, who came in the preliminary stage, and to consider Osama Hamad’s government as the legitimate government until a unified government is chosen.
