The Special Representative of the Secretary-General met with the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdallah Batele, and Russia’s Ambassador to Tripoli, Haidar Aganin, where they invited Libya’s leaders to discuss the need for elections.
Batelli announced on the X platform that he met with the Russian ambassador and discussed with him the political and security situation in Libya.
Patele called on all Libyan leaders to agree on a credible path to holding elections and avoid the risks facing the country.

The meeting is part of a series of meetings with various parties and actors in Libya and the diplomatic community, with the aim of supporting the UN-sponsored political process.
Batelli said he also met with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdelhamid Dabaiba, and continues his consultations with members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, with the aim of strengthening support for the political process in Libya.
