The UAE Mission to the United Nations issued a categorical statement denying the allegations made by Sudan’s permanent representative to the United Nations regarding the UAE’s involvement in destabilizing the country.
In a letter sent by the Permanent Ambassador of the UAE, Mohammed Abu Shehab, to the presidency of the UN Security Council, the mission stressed that the allegations against it were baseless, considering them “merely an attempt to divert attention from the conflict and the deteriorating humanitarian situation resulting from the continued fighting”.
The mission stressed that all allegations of the UAE’s involvement in aggression or destabilization in Sudan “are false, baseless and lack any credible evidence to support them.”
The UAE maintains its firm position that there is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan and expresses concern over the failure of the conflicting parties to respond to calls for a cessation of hostilities or efforts to reach a sustainable solution through dialogue.
The UAE ambassador stressed his country’s respect for the sovereignty of other countries and non-interference in their internal affairs and pledged to fully comply with UN Security Council resolutions.
At the end of the statement, the UAE affirmed its commitment to support the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Sudan and pledged to work with all concerned to support any process aimed at putting Sudan on the political track to reach a lasting settlement and achieve a national consensus to form a civilian-led government.
It is noteworthy that the UAE has previously denied arming the Sudanese “Rapid Support” forces, stressing that it is not a party to arming any party to the conflict in Sudan.
