The President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, received a written congratulatory message from US President Joe Biden, on the occasion of Libya’s Independence Day.

In his message, Biden wished progress, prosperity, and peace for the Libyan people, according to a statement by the Libyan Presidential Council.

On Sunday, December 24, Libya celebrates the 72nd anniversary of its independence from Italian colonialism, which began in 1911 and lasted until the declaration of independence through the famous United Nations resolution issued in November 1949.

The National Transitional Council (NTC) included December 24th as an official holiday for the country, after the celebration of this anniversary was canceled during the 42-year regime of the late President Muammar Gaddafi, and the flag of independence was raised for the first time after these years during the first days of the February revolution, in the city of Benghazi.
