Tunisian President Kais Saied expressed his categorical rejection of his country becoming a transit point or settlement for migrants, in light of the activity of human smuggling networks from Africa to Europe via Tunisia.
This came during his review of the results of his participation in the work of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum in Tripoli, while receiving Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Hashani at Carthage Palace.
The Tunisian President reaffirmed his country’s firm position on the issue of irregular migration, and said that Tunisia, which is proud of its African affiliation, has provided what it can to migrants who are behind human trafficking networks, stressing that Tunisia cannot accept to be a transit point or a stable for these migrants. The phenomenon.
Saeed pointed out that the solution can only be collective, calling for the dismantling of the criminal networks behind this phenomenon.
Saeed added that these immigrants are victims of an unjust global economic system, stressing the need for every official to distance himself from any political considerations and adhere to the duties of neutrality and reserve, noting that any violation or negligence within state agencies must result in a legal penalty.
The Libyan capital, Tripoli, witnessed the launch of the activities of the “Trans-Mediterranean Migration” forum, under the slogan “Enhancing integrated border security and management and the vision of the Libyan state to address the issue of illegal immigration.”
Several European countries and international organizations participated in the forum, in an attempt by the outgoing Libyan National Unity Government to limit the flow of illegal immigrants, and to convey the message that “Libya is a transit country and not a source for immigrants heading to European countries.”
