Tunisian President Kais Saied issued an order granting a special presidential pardon, requiring the suspension of penalties for a number of convicts who committed crimes related to publishing blog posts on social media.

According to the statement of the Presidency of the Republic, this amnesty comes within the framework of implementing the provisions of Chapter 99 of the Constitution, and includes those convicted based on registrations only, with the exception of those who were prosecuted based on other crimes.

The Tunisian presidency announced that the amnesty did not include other crimes that may have sparked legal prosecution by the Public Prosecution or lawsuits from litigants related to other acts punishable by law.

Presidential decisions released 233 people out of 1,727 convicts, which reflects the political movement that coincides with the approaching presidential elections.
