The head of the Independent High Authority for Elections in Tunisia, Farouk Bouaskar, announced that no violations had been observed since the start of preparations for the presidential elections on July 14.
This statement came during a press conference organized by Bouaskar in the Tunisian capital to shed light on the course of the electoral process.
Bouaskar also confirmed that the Commission is closely following political announcements and publishing the results of opinion polls through its units designated for monitoring, noting that no violations have been recorded so far that require alerting or referral to the Public Prosecution. He added that monitoring electoral spending will actually begin with the launch of the electoral campaign in mid-next September. .
Bouaskar explained that the authority will begin receiving nomination files starting from July 29, with an emphasis that the initially accepted names will be announced in the period from August 6 to 10.
Bouaskar stressed that the monitoring activity of the cells will increase as the election date approaches and the electoral campaigns escalate, as the units of the authority responsible for the electoral campaign monitor various types of media and social media networks and submit daily reports on the results of their work, which enables the authority to take the necessary measures when needed.
These measures come within the framework of enhancing the transparency of the electoral process in Tunisia, as candidates began collecting the necessary recommendations to confirm their candidacy since July 11, with each candidate collecting recommendations from parliamentarians, heads of elected local authorities, or from voters, with a specific geographical distribution.
Tunisian President Kais Saied called citizens to the polls on October 6, in a step to strengthen the path of democracy in the country.
