Sudan’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of killing dozens of unarmed civilians in South Kordofan, Gezira and Sennar states.
According to a statement issued by the ministry: “The Rapid Support has escalated over the past days its attacks on civilians, villages and safe towns in different parts of the country.”
“This week, criminal militia gangs (RSF) attacked a number of villages in the areas of Habila, Dalang and Lagao in South Kordofan state, burning 5 villages, killing more than 60 unarmed villagers, and kidnapping a number of others,” the statement said.
The statement added: “The Rapid Support Forces killed during the past days 20 citizens from the village of Wad al-Aziz west of Sennar state, 17 citizens from the village of Wad al-Balila, 12 civilians from the village of Maajna, and 7 in the village of Al-Aqda Al-Maghriba and attacked a number of safe villages that do not even have police stations or government offices in the state of Al-Jazeera.”
The statement continued: “The Rapid Support Forces imposed a siege on the city of Tabat Sheikh Abdul Mahmoud, the religious center known as the state of Gezira, and prevents the exit or entry of citizens or the arrival of goods and supplies to it.”
The ministry called for firm steps from the international community, governments and legislative bodies of countries concerned to achieve peace and stability in Sudan and the region.
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been fighting a devastating war since mid-April 2023, leaving more than 13,000 dead, and about 8 million displaced and refugees, according to United Nations estimates.
