The Sudanese army announced the recapture of the radio and television headquarters after fierce battles in the city of Omdurman.
These clashes took place with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which had taken control of the headquarters for 11 months.
The commission is headquartered in Omdurman, on the Nile opposite Khartoum, part of the greater capital region where the army has recently won victories after a series of defeats.
In a video released by the army, soldiers are seen within a kilometer of the radio and television building chanting after seizing vehicles and weapons, after violent confrontations that included the use of various types of weapons, including heavy ones.
Sudan’s army said it and other regular forces had managed to wrest the radio headquarters from the “rebel militia”, referring to the RSF.
As clashes continue in other areas of the capital, Khartoum, coinciding with the third day of Ramadan, reports indicate heavy fighting in the old areas of Omdurman, with both sides inflicting human and military losses.
In a related context, a military source in the Rapid Support Forces reported an attack on the position of the Corps of Engineers south of Omdurman, causing significant loss of life and military equipment by the army.
With the UN Security Council calling on the parties to cease fire during Ramadan, the conflict continues, reflecting the complexity of the political and security situation in Sudan.
These events come in the context of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces since mid-April 2023, amid disagreements over the transition plan to civilian rule.
