Shocking videos showing two Sudanese soldiers waving severed heads have recently gone viral on social media since Thursday.

Sudan’s military said it was following the matter closely and said shocking videos showing soldiers carrying two severed heads were being investigated.

The Sudanese Armed Forces stressed in a statement on Friday that those responsible would be held accountable if they were found to be members of the armed forces.

The Sudanese Armed Forces affirmed their commitment to international laws and norms during military operations, expressing their rejection of any practices that exceeded the rules of professional conduct.

These developments come in the context of the escalating conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, as the confrontations entered their eleventh month without clear signs of close diplomatic solutions between the warring parties.

Since the conflict began, both sides have traded accusations, with alleged abuses including theft of homes and institutions, unjustified detention of civilians, and even reports of rape of women.

The ongoing clashes have displaced more than 6 million people, two million of whom have been displaced to neighbouring countries, according to the International Organization for Migration.

So far, all international and regional endeavours to bring peace to the conflicting parties have not succeeded.
