The Tunisian Election Authority announced that the 2024 presidential election period began on Sunday, July 14, and will continue until the final results are announced.

The Commission said in a statement that it “began monitoring the public space in everything related to electoral affairs, especially with regard to prohibiting political advertising (Articles 3, 57 and 154 of the Electoral Law), and prohibiting the broadcast and publication of the results of opinion polls that are directly or indirectly related to the elections, studies and comments.” its own press through various media outlets (Articles 70 and 156 of the Electoral Law), and prohibiting the allocation of a toll-free phone number in the media, an audio distributor, or a call center for the benefit of a candidate or party (Articles 58 and 152 of the Electoral Law).”

The Election Commission confirmed that it will be keen to “enforce the law on all manifestations that disrupt the integrity of the electoral process, with the aim of confronting all speech that includes calls for violence, hatred, intolerance, and discrimination, or misleading voters, spreading false news and rumors, or attributing untrue matters with the aim of defaming the electoral body or others, or Defaming reputation, harming honor, dignity or honor, or violating the sanctity of private life and personal data, in accordance with the legislation currently in force.”

The authority will also begin, directly and in coordination with the relevant state institutions, to “monitor the financing of political life in general, especially the financing of the activities of potential candidates, political parties, and associations related to electoral affairs.”

She stated that this comes “in consideration of the general mandate that the Commission undertakes over electoral affairs in accordance with Article 134 of the Constitution and Chapters 2 and 3 of Basic Law No. 23 of 2012 relating to the Independent High Authority for Elections, and out of its belief in its constitutional and national duty to preserve the safety, integrity and transparency of the electoral process.” .

It is noteworthy that the filing of nominations for the presidential elections opens starting on Monday, July 29, 2024, at eight in the morning and closes on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at six in the evening, according to an announcement published by the Commission on Thursday, July 4, in which it presented details of the calendar for the 2024 presidential elections in Tunisia.

On July 2, President Kais Saied issued an order calling Tunisian voters to the presidential elections, and set October 6, 2024, as the date for the presidential elections.
