Speaker of the House of Representatives Aguila Saleh stressed the need to unify power in Libya in order to avoid division and corruption and stressed that elections cannot be held in the presence of two governments.
Saleh pointed to the country’s readiness for the elections, noting that all the necessary laws and mechanisms are in place, and elections are expected to be held before the end of this year, despite the intervention of the Arab League.
Saleh added that external interference and repeated dispatches of envoys are major obstacles to the political process in Libya, noting that leaving it to the Libyans and implementing the constitutional declaration will contribute to achieving rapid progress.
In a related context, Saleh stressed that the vast majority of the Libyan people want to hold elections and unify power in the country and proposed the formation of a mini-government specialized in organizing elections for a specific period, stressing the need to deal with them by the international community and Arab countries.
