The Spanish Football Federation faces a real risk of suspension by “FIFA” and “UEFA” for the Spanish government’s interference in the work of the association.
As revealed by Spanish newspaper AS on Monday, things are heading to escalate after a letter from the president of FIFA’s Sustainable Development Committee, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribe, explaining the Spanish government’s interference in the work of the Spanish Football Federation.
This has caused great concern for “FIFA” and “UEFA”, as they consider political interference in sports institutions unacceptable.
According to information quoted by the newspaper, the government is seeking to impose a special committee within the Spanish Football Federation, which is considered a clear political interference in sports work.
“FIFA” and “UEFA” are asking the Spanish government to clarify matters and answer several questions, including the basis of the sample of the new body of the Spanish federation after the election of new president Pedro Rocha.
In a related context, sources in “FIFA and UEFA” confirmed that “possible consequences will affect Spain, if government interference in the activity of the Spanish Federation is proven.”
Among these consequences are the suspension of Spanish teams’ participation in the European Cup and the Olympics, the ban on the participation of major Spanish clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona in European competitions next season, and the possibility of Spain losing the opportunity to stage the 2030 World Cup.
Pedro Rocha, who was chosen as president of the Spanish Football Federation, faces corruption charges in Spain and was elected by a majority vote in the General Assembly during a meeting last week.
