Somali President Hassan Sheikh has left the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa after Ethiopian authorities prevented him from attending the African Union summit.
The Somali President reportedly faced unworthy misreception and threats to his personal safety in Addis Ababa.
The Somali government has strongly accused the Ethiopian authorities of misreception and inappropriate behaviour towards a head of state, stressing that this poses a threat to diplomatic protocols and African traditions.
In an official statement, the Somali government condemned what it called a “provocative attempt” by the Ethiopian government to prevent the Somali president’s delegation from attending the African summit in Addis Ababa.
In a related context, the Somali government called on the African Union to conduct an urgent and independent investigation to determine the truth about this behavior, stressing that this step is a flagrant violation of international standards and African values.
At the end of its statement, the Somali government noted the importance of treating all the continent’s leaders equally when hosting the African Union, asking the African Union to immediately reassess the location of its headquarters in the event of failure to adhere to the required diplomatic decency
