A number of Libyan citizens undergoing cancer treatment in Turkey are facing difficult conditions due to the delay of medical authorities in paying hospital dues.
According to media reports, the Turkish Medboli Hospital has informed the Libyan embassy in Ankara that the treatment of Libyan patients has stopped due to the failure of the Government of National Unity to pay the costs of treatment.
Reports indicated that the hospital has decided to stop providing treatment services starting Friday (April 5) and demanded the speedy repayment of accumulated debts.
Cancer patients in many of the countries where they are treated suffer from similar problems, as the crisis extends to countries such as Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan, in light of the deteriorating conditions of the health sector inside Libya.
This crisis comes in light of official aspirations to localize cancer treatment in Libya, where 45 patients were returned from abroad to complete treatment at home, especially those who need chemotherapy and radiation after ensuring the provision of medicines and activating radiation therapy in local centers.
Many patients and their families are wary of returning to treatment inside Libya due to the volatile situation, where the shortage of medicines and the absence of medical competencies continue to threaten efforts in this field.
