Libyan rower Mohamed Bokra qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the second Libyan athlete to qualify for this tournament after shooter Mohamed Ben Dalla.
This qualification came after his successful participation in the World Rowing Championships held in the Swiss city of Lucerne last May, which is the final stage of the Olympic qualifiers.
Muhammad Bakra expressed his great happiness with this achievement, stressing his feeling of pride and admiration for participating in the Olympics for the first time in his sporting career.
Despite the simple preparations he went through during the African qualifying stage, Bokra aspires to compete strongly with the world champions in Paris and hopes to provide an outstanding performance and raise the Libyan flag high.
The Libyan Olympic Committee, headed by Dr. Jamal Al-Zarrouk, is awaiting white cards from the International Olympic Committee to determine the remaining players participating in the Olympics.
The Libyan rower continued to achieve achievements in rowing, as this is the third time in a row that he has qualified for this sport in the Olympic Games after participating in Rio 2014 and Tokyo 2020.
Libyan athletes have historically participated in 11 Olympic Games, the most notable of which was the 1980 Moscow Olympics with the participation of 29 athletes, including the first two Libyan women in the Olympics.
Libyan participation mostly focused on individual sports, such as athletics, cycling, swimming, weightlifting, table tennis, and martial arts, while the only participation in team sports was through the men’s volleyball team in Moscow in 1980.
