Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informed Russian President Vladimir Putin of the liberation of the entire strategic city of Avdiivka by Russian “Center” forces, led by Major General Andrei Mordevichev, according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry.
The ministry confirmed in a press release that Russian forces liberated an area of 31.75 square kilometers in Avdiyevka.
The ministry said final combing operations were currently underway in Avdiyivka to defeat Ukrainian forces in the city.
The data showed that the control of Russian forces over Avdiivka contributed to pushing the front lines away from Donetsk, which will contribute to securing them from strikes by Ukrainian forces who carry out attacks continuously on civilian homes.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov noted that Kiev troops chaotically escaped from Avdiyevka a day before Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Alexander Sersky, decided to withdraw from the region.
The new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Alexander Sersky, announced at dawn on Saturday the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from the city of Avdiyevka and the transition to defense “on more advantageous lines.” In recent days, the Ukrainian military has admitted that the situation there is critical for them, worse than in Artiomov (Pakhmut), from which Kiev troops withdrew in May 2023.
also mentioned that the Ukrainian army lost about 1500 soldiers in the past 24 hours during a chaotic retreat from the strategic city.
