The Russian Federal Security Service announced that it had thwarted a plan for a terrorist attack targeting an Orthodox church in the city of Maykop in the Russian region of Adygea.
The agency stated that the suspected terrorist had manufactured incendiary devices with the aim of using them in the attack and was planning to leave the country after carrying out the attack.
During the search, prohibited terrorist materials, a knife, and parts of an incendiary device were found in his possession.
Investigations indicated that the accused was publishing publications on the Internet calling for terrorist attacks on Russian territory.
After these publications, Ukrainian recruiters contacted him and sent him an application form for recruitment into Ukrainian military formations, which he filled out. The Ukrainians also asked him to photograph various social facilities in Russia.
The Russian Federal Security Service is working to investigate more details about the plot and any potential partners in this terrorist operation.
