The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the dismantling of a network smuggling explosives and electric detonators into Russia, coming from Germany and Italy to the city of St. Petersburg, with the aim of carrying out terrorist operations.
The agency explained in a statement that the investigation revealed that the network smuggled materials through postal parcels containing car parts, which were distributed in stages.
The statement added that the Russian authorities submitted requests for assistance to the relevant European intelligence services to identify those involved in these operations, but they have not received any response yet.
In a related context, the Federal Security Service indicated the discovery of a similar plot in April 2023 in the Crimean Peninsula, where people involved in planning a terrorist operation were identified and arrested.
The statement stated that these activities were under the supervision of Roman Mashovets, deputy head of the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who is wanted by the Russian authorities.
