Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui, revealed the list of the “Atlas Lions” in preparation for the participation in the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to be held in Ivory Coast at the beginning of the coming year.
The list included 27 players, led by Hakim Ziyech, Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi and Sofiane Amrabat.
The list witnessed three surprises, represented by the exclusion of striker Abdul Razzaq Hamdallah, who shines this season in the Saudi league with Ittihad Jeddah Club, and the presence of Mohamed Al-Shaibi, right-back of the Egyptian team Pyramids, and Shadi Riad, defender of Real Betis.
Goalkeepers: Yassine Bounou – Mounir Mohammadi – Mehdi Benabid.
Defenders: Ashraf Hakimi – Mohammed Al-Shaibi – Yahya Attiyatullah – Naseer Mezrawi – Nayef Akrad – Roman Saiss – Younis Abdel Hamid – Shadi Riad – Abdel Kabir Abaqar.
Midfielders: Sofiane Amrabet – Osama Al-Azzouzi – Amir Richarisson – Amin Harith – Bilal Al-Khanous – Salim Maltah – Ezzedine Onahi – Ismail Al-Sibari.
Forwards: Hakim Ziyech – Amin Adly – Sofiane Boufal – Abdul Samad Al-Zalzouli – Youssef Al-Nasiri – Ayoub Al-Kaabi – Tarek Tsiudali.
Morocco will play the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13th to February 11th as one of the leading candidates to win the title, especially after its historic achievement in the World Cup in Qatar when it became the first Arab and African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Morocco will open its participation in the African Cup on January 17th against Tanzania in Group F, which also includes the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
