Population growth rates and birth rates in Egypt have witnessed a noticeable decline, according to the Egyptian Demographic Observatory.

Counselor Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Council of Ministers, said, “The population growth rate decreased from 1.9% in 2019 to reach 1.4% in 2023. The crude birth rate also decreased from 24.6 births per thousand population in 2018, to 19.4 births at the end of the year.” 2023.”

The spokesman pointed out that the number of births in the first quarter of the current year 2024, until the end of last March, witnessed a decrease in the rate to 491.8 thousand births, compared to 509.5 thousand births in the same period in 2023, a decrease of 3.5%, thanks to what the government has done. Among the initiatives, most important of which is the national project that we are embarking on to develop the Egyptian family.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly praised the noticeable decline in population growth rates and birth rates, noting the need to continue the efforts made by the ministries and concerned authorities to educate citizens regarding the decline in birth rates, due to its positive impact on the economic situation and strengthening the state’s ability in the field of Providing services to citizens and improving their level.

Another important indicator was noted, which was the decrease in the crude death rate in 2023 from the usual rate in 2018 and 2019, as a result of the improvement in health care for citizens thanks to presidential initiatives in the health sector.
