The Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) in Libya’s western region has threatened to stop the flow of gas from the Mellitah oil complex and close all oil facilities in the country if the government does not implement decisions to increase their salaries and grant them their agreed rights.
The agency said in a statement that its employees suffer marginalization and exclusion and work in difficult and poor working conditions, despite the promises of officials to enable them to all their dues, noting that the decision to close the main valve of the gas pipeline of the Mellita oil complex, came after blocking all roads in front of its employees.
The closure process will take place gradually, provided that coordination will be made with the rest of the members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard throughout the country until the closure affects the rest of the fields, ports and oil complexes in the coming days, the agency said.
The complex is the hub for exporting Libyan gas to Italy via the Greenstream gas pipeline and includes crude processing facilities as well as reservoirs for crude oil and other liquid products.
Any suspension of the complex would disrupt gas supplies to Italy.
