The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism announced that the number of tourists arriving to Morocco in the first six months of this year increased by 14% on an annual basis, and the number of tourists reached 7.4 million.
The ministry explained that Morocco received an unprecedented number of 14.5 million tourists last year and aims to attract 17.5 million tourists next year and 26 million tourists by 2030, when it co-hosts the FIFA World Cup finals with Spain and Portugal.
The Ministry confirmed that tourism represents about 7% of Morocco’s gross domestic product and is a major source of foreign currency.
She noted that tourism revenues rose by 1.6% during the first five months of this year, reaching $4.13 billion.
The Ministry of Tourism quoted Minister Fatima Al-Zahraa Ammor as saying, “Tourism revenues continue to grow, which is in line with the Ministry’s expectations during the current year.”
She stressed the need for actors in the tourism sector in Morocco to continue mobilizing efforts with professionals and partners, and to continue developing high-quality tourism experiences and providing attractive and income-generating offers.
The Minister also called for enhancing engagement in local experiences, noting the importance of enabling local residents to benefit more from this tourism momentum.
