The “New York Times” reported that the fighters of the Ukrainian 41st Mechanized Brigade, who were transferred from the Chasov Yar area to Toretsk in Donetsk before the Russian army’s attack, lost their way due to poor communications and delayed orders.

The newspaper’s sources explained that the transferred soldiers were ignorant of the terrain of the new area, in addition to receiving orders from the command that they described as “meaningless,” which ultimately led to them leaving their positions after several days.

In a related context, the Russian Defense Ministry announced earlier that units of the “Center” group of forces improved the situation along the front line and were able to defeat Ukrainian forces in the areas of Toretsk, Grodovka, Orlovka and Nikolaevka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

According to the “New York Times”, the soldiers of the Ukrainian 24th Brigade had warned their commanders in May 2024 of signs of an imminent Russian attack on Toretsk and warned of the danger of conducting military rotations at such a critical moment.

Despite these warnings, the 41st Brigade was transferred to Toretsk in June to replace the 24th Brigade, and within two days they were exposed to the expected Russian attack.
