Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, held an important meeting on the sidelines of the meeting of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on the tragic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire in the region.

According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, it was stressed during the meeting of the two ministers the need to start a negotiation process in accordance with international law and international resolutions, with the aim of peacefully resolving the long conflict and achieving the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish a sovereign state on the 1967 borders.

During the meeting, Lavrov expressed his thanks for the Egyptian support, which contributed to facilitating the evacuation of Russian citizens from the Gaza Strip and discussed with his Egyptian counterpart issues of settling conflicts in Yemen, Libya, Syria and Lebanon, and activating political dialogue within the framework of the BRICS group, the United Nations and other international arenas.
