The Director of the Regional Investment Center in Morocco, Mounir Hawari, stressed the strategic role that the new Dakhla port will play in enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Morocco and the countries of the African continent.
During a press interview about the new projects in the city of Dakhla and its suburbs, Hawari stressed that the port, which is currently being built, will provide opportunities for Dakhla to become an Atlantic gateway to the African coastal countries and a starting point for large-scale trade exchange.
Hawari explained that the port will be a center for economic activity that reflects Morocco’s years-long strategy of strengthening economic relations with African countries, benefiting from the continent’s abundant natural resources.
He stated that Moroccan companies operating in sectors such as banking and telecommunications in African countries will benefit greatly from this new portal, which will facilitate the process of strengthening trade ties.
Hawari also pointed out that the port of Dakhla not only enhances trade, but also constitutes a lever for the economy of the entire region, especially by supporting the export of industrial products, pointing to the efforts made to accelerate the pace of construction and develop a nearby industrial and logistics zone, in addition to strengthening the region’s infrastructure by linking it to the city of Laayoune via a road. Houari recalled the ministerial meeting held recently in Marrakesh with the participation of the Sahel countries, that it was agreed to establish a national working group in each country to strengthen the Moroccan initiative launched by King Mohammed VI to enable the Sahel countries to benefit from the Atlantic Ocean.
Dakhla is considered one of the most important ports in Morocco, as it is located in the Oued Eddahab region, which is an area rich in fish. It consists of three components: a commercial port with a depth of 16 meters below sea level and can be used for maritime trade, and a port dedicated to coastal fishing and supporting the marine fishing sector in the region.
