The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives called on all countries to transfer their embassies and representatives of diplomatic and international bodies and institutions to the city of Benghazi instead of the capital, Tripoli.
The ministry explained in a statement that Benghazi enjoys a state of security, safety and stability, unlike the unstable security conditions in Tripoli.
The ministry expressed in its statement its appreciation for Egypt’s position and its efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The statement referred to the official reception that the head of the government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, received during his visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The ministry considered that the statements and actions of the interim Government of National Unity reflect its insistence on violating the laws and decisions issued by the House of Representatives, which it considers the elected and legitimate body in Libya.
The interim Government of National Unity had expressed its rejection of the Egyptian government’s official reception of the head of the government assigned by the House of Representatives and described this government as “parallel bodies that do not enjoy any international recognition.”
The Government of National Unity stressed that this step contradicts the unity of the international position rejecting the country’s return to a state of division and war, and is inconsistent with the expected Egyptian, Arab and regional role in supporting the unity and stability of Libya.
