The mayor of the small town of Colonne in France’s Normandy region, Daniel Marier, has ordered clergy to initiate “highest priority communications with heaven” to help end torrential rains that have ravaged the village.
“I have never witnessed weather like this before in July,” Marier told Agence France-Presse, explaining that yesterday morning it was raining heavily, the sky was gray and visibility was poor, which forced him to turn on the lights inside the house.
The head of the village, which has 227 residents, issued a funny order stating, “The rain must stop and be replaced by bright sunshine and a light breeze in the months of August and September, and why not in October.”
Marier called on parish priests across northern France to contribute through “the highest priority communication with Heaven, and they will therefore be responsible for implementing this rule.”
This call came at a time when the French Meteorological Authority indicated that rainfall in June fell at a rate of 20 percent more than the usual rate during the period from 1991 to 2020, with rain falling equivalent to twice the usual rainfall in some areas.
