The Malian army said it had repelled three “terrorist” attacks in the south of the country on Saturday, amid worsening security threats in the Sahel region.
The army said in a statement that the attacks targeted a customs post and military sites in the southern region of the country.
These multiple attacks occurred about six hours apart, with gunmen attacking a customs post in Kangaba district, injuring two civilian staff.
The Malian army said it had managed to “neutralise a number of militants, who withdrew towards the forest”.
In other attacks, a military post in Danderisu in the Sikasso region and an army post in Mahó, Kotiala region were similarly attacked.
These two regions border Burkina Faso.
Since 2012, Mali has been suffering from security, political and humanitarian crises due to the activity of “terrorist” organizations.
The military, which took power in 2020, ended the old alliance with France, which was the main power in the region, and shifted militarily and politically towards Russia.
