Mohamed Aoun, Minister of Oil and Gas in the outgoing Libyan “National Unity” government, announced his temporary cessation of performing his ministerial duties.
This came in a recorded clip published by Aoun, in which he indicated that the Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh , ignored his repeated appeals to lift the precautionary moratorium on him.
Aoun said in the clip: “We learned without any official notification that an assignment was issued on June 27 by the Prime Minister to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas to continue running the ministry’s duties until further notice, despite my actual presence in the ministry’s office as a full-time legitimate minister for the affairs of the ministry and the entire sector.”
Aoun explained that his decision to stop working came “in order to ensure the stability of work in the oil and gas sector and to avoid any confusion in the conduct of oil operations.”
He added: “I will temporarily move away from the scene and stop performing my duties as Minister of Oil and Gas, starting today, until a new statement or statement is issued from me.”
Aoun affirmed his previous demand to enable him to exercise his duties as Minister of Oil and Gas, or to issue an official decision to dismiss him in accordance with the applicable laws and legislation.
