The Libyan national football team is preparing to participate in the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco in 2025, with two decisive matches against Rwanda and Benin during the month of September.

The Confederation of African Football reported that the opening match for the Libyan team in the first round against the Rwandan national team will be held on September 4, at the Tripoli International Stadium, which will be the stage for this football match.

This match will be followed by another match in the second round, as the Libyan team will head to Abidjan to meet its Benin counterpart on the tenth of the same month.

The Libyan Football Federation was founded in 1962, followed by its joining FIFA in 1964 and the Confederation of African Football in 1965. The Federation is considered a member of the Arab Football Federation.

The Libyan national team started for the first time in 1918, but it did not play an official international match until August 3, 1953.

It is noteworthy that Serbian coach Milutan Sredojevic, known as “Micho”, has been training the Libyan national team since October 5, 2023.
