Taher al-Baour, in charge of the foreign ministry of Libya’s Government of National Unity, said his country has a long-standing relationship with Russia and has no reservations about cooperation with Moscow.

“Libya and Russia have historical and long-standing relations, which are mostly stable, and we have no objections or reservations about cooperation with Russia,” al-Baour told Novosti.

Al-Baour explained that Russia is one of the important countries and historically plays a role in the Middle East and North Africa and said: “We have always counted on Russia, as it will be a counterweight or a country that creates balance in the region.”

Al-Baour stressed that his government is ready to cooperate in the issue of opening a Russian consulate general in the Libyan city of Benghazi, noting that there are no political obstacles to opening the consulate, but so far there are procedural and administrative obstacles in this matter.

The Russian ambassador to Libya, Haidar Aganin, said earlier that the opening of the Russian consulate general in Benghazi has been postponed, and the embassy continues its efforts to convince the authorities in Tripoli of the need to open that consulate.
