The Defense and National Security Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives denounced in a statement the decision of the Prime Minister of the Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, to allocate a plot of land in Misrata to the US forces in Africa (AFRICOM).
In its statement, the committee referred to the decision issued by the so-called Minister of Defense of the outgoing unity government under No. (10_2024) regarding the allocation of a plot of land at the Misurata Air Academy to station AFRICOM forces within the framework of what is known as counter-terrorism cooperation, provided that this allocation ends with the end of operations.
The committee said in its statement: “It is known that there is no trace of terrorism now with the presence of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces under the command of the General Command, as the area controlled by the command in particular and Libya in general, as the General Command continued day and night until it was able to liberate the homeland from the grip of terrorism.”
She added that AFRICOM forces issued an official announcement of the end of military operations in the city of Sirte (Bunyan al-Marsous operations) in 2016, and from this announcement so far, no terrorist hotspots have been recorded.
The committee described the decision as unjustified, noting that it constitutes giving the deed of selling the homeland to foreign forces, calling for an end to this tampering with the country, and holding the outgoing unity government responsible for any foreign presence in the country.
