The Libyan government’s Ministry of Local Government has directed the Municipal Guard to launch an extensive campaign targeting shops, starting Wednesday (February 14th), with the aim of protecting consumers’ rights and combating high prices and monopoly in the markets, especially after the rise in the foreign exchange rate.
In a joint meeting held by Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Local Government Abu Bakr Al-Zway with the head of the Municipal Guard Major General Salem Boufares, the ministry announced the formation of joint teams with the Municipal Guard to implement the campaign, which will focus on ensuring the availability of basic commodities, controlling prices, and combating market manipulation, coinciding with the approach of the blessed month of Ramadan.
The Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Local Government stressed that the ministry, with the support of the Libyan government and the armed forces, will work to provide all capabilities and facilitate the procedures required to implement the campaign, and that it will follow up on the situation periodically to ensure the continued success of the campaign and achieve its desired goals, calling on citizens to cooperate and report any illegal practices related to prices.
