The Interior Ministry of the Libyan government, mandated by the House of Representatives, announced on Friday that it had opened an urgent investigation into the kidnapping of member of the House of Representatives Ibrahim Drissi.

A statement issued by the ministry’s Security Media Office said a report was received from the Benghazi Security Directorate regarding the disappearance of MP Ibrahim al-Drissi after his house was raided and robbed late at night.

The statement stressed that Benghazi security chief Maj. Gen. Ahmed al-Shamekh, the Internal Security Service and the Criminal Investigation Service have been tasked with opening a comprehensive and urgent investigation to determine the circumstances of al-Drissi’s disappearance.

The ministry categorically denied the reports circulating about his death, stressing that these reports are completely untrue, and called on the media and citizens not to be swayed by unreliable rumors.

A parliamentarian revealed to Libyan media that “Drissi attended the celebration in Benghazi on Thursday to commemorate the Battle of Dignity and was fine until after eight o’clock in the evening, and then became his phones do not answer and then closed,” pointing to “inform the competent security authorities in the city, to search for him and find out his fate.”
