Representatives of the General Command of the Libyan Army decided to withdraw their participation in the national reconciliation file, in response to the decision of the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, to withdraw the inclusion of the dead and wounded of the army forces to the Martyrs Authority.

The exile withdrew his decision to include the dead and wounded of the Libyan army forces to the General Authority for the Care of the Families of Martyrs, Missing and Amputees in the Government of National Unity, after he was subjected to a wave of protests inside Tripoli that reached the point of storming his headquarters, and opposing him by his deputy, Ali Al-Lafi.

The Libyan army said in a statement that the exile’s withdrawal of the decision after the threats shows his unfitness for this task and called on the African Union to appoint another partner to lead this file away from politicization and procrastination.

On the other hand, members of the preparatory committee for the reconciliation project criticized Lafi’s rejection of the decision to include the dead army in the Martyrs’ Commission, considering it bias and a departure from the neutral principle that he should follow.

The army representatives called for reconsidering Lafi’s assumption of supervision of the reconciliation file, which does not tolerate exclusion, prevarication, and procrastination, stressing that they will demand that the United Nations withdraw the file from the Presidential Council as a prerequisite for their continuation in the committee if their request is rejected.

It is noteworthy that the withdrawal of the Libyan army from the reconciliation project may lead to the failure of this project, which aims to reunite Libyans and enhance confidence between political parties, especially after the withdrawal of representatives of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, in protest against the continued imprisonment of Gaddafi symbols without charges.
