Today, the Tripoli Criminal Court sentenced Amal Al-Jarari, Libya’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, to prison for 7 years after convicting her of embezzling public funds.

The court deprived Al-Jarari of her civil rights throughout the period of execution of the sentence and imposed a fine on her doubling the embezzled amount.

The court proved that Al-Jarari exploited her position to achieve illegal material benefits and seized public funds, causing harm to the public interest.

The court conducted careful investigations through which it confirmed that Al-Jarari, head of the Libyan mission to Belgium and Luxembourg, had unlawfully seized sums of money. The Public Prosecutor’s Office published details of this evidence on its official Facebook account.

The court concluded its last sessions with the aforementioned ruling after the accusation against Al-Jarari was proven, and it was proven that she caused great harm to the public interest.

The publication of an audio recording on social media sparked widespread controversy, as Al-Jarari appeared in the recording asking her secretary to issue a false invoice worth more than 200,000 euros to treat a fake Libyan patient with cancer. This recording contributed to supporting the evidence presented against her in court.
