The electoral campaign for the presidential elections in Algeria, scheduled for September 7, begins on Thursday, with the participation of three candidates.
They are led by the current president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is seeking a second term, in addition to Abdelali Hassani Cherif, head of the Movement for a Peaceful Society party, and Youssef Ouchiche, first secretary of the Socialist Forces Front party.
In press statements on the eve of the campaign, the head of the Independent National Election Authority, Mohamed Charfi, called on the media to adhere to neutrality and ensure equal media coverage of the candidates.
Charfi confirmed that the number of voters exceeds 24 million, including more than 865 thousand voters abroad, pointing to the readiness of the Independent National Election Authority to ensure transparency and preserve the freedom of choice of voters.
The electoral campaign continues until September 3, amid fears of voter apathy, given that it coincides with the summer vacation and annual holidays.
Attracting voters and presenting electoral programs at this time is one of the most prominent challenges facing candidates and their electoral campaigns.
