A Jordanian military source reported that 5 people were killed, 15 smugglers were arrested, and another was injured, in clashes fought by Jordanian forces with armed groups on the Syrian border.
Tens of thousands of Captagon pills, a large amount of hashish and a Kalashnikov firearm were also seized during clashes between Jordanian border guards and armed groups on Jordan’s northern border, within the area of responsibility of the eastern military region, according to the Jordanian news agency Petra.
The source added that the clashes fought by the armed forces on the border with armed groups and smugglers did not result in any injury among the members of the Jordanian army.
The source stated that “the presence of armed organizations that practice smuggling and rely on systematic infiltrations, and the exploitation of these armed groups by weather conditions and the formation of dense fog, and the nature of the rugged terrain is what has increased the frequency and number of these operations recently,” stressing that “the Jordanian Armed Forces are continuing to deal with all strength and firmness, with any threat on the border fronts, and any efforts intended to undermine and destabilize the security of the homeland and terrorize its citizens.”
