The Israeli army confirmed that several tanks were damaged during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which led to the postponement of armored exercises until November 2025.
This announcement came in the Israeli army’s response to a petition submitted to the Supreme Court of Israel regarding women serving in combat positions.
The army explained that it is not possible to open women’s armored units currently due to the lack of tanks needed to train women fighters, against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.
The Israeli army indicated that the tanks currently available are insufficient for the war effort and training at the same time, as Major General Herzi Halevy, commander of the Israeli army, said, “Given the exceptional security situation and the repercussions of the violent war on armored vehicles, it is not possible to conduct training on time.”
The army explained that many tanks have been taken out of service due to damage sustained, and are not being used for combat or training, and that new tanks are not expected to be provided in the near future, which further complicates the situation.
The Israeli army added that these circumstances led to the postponement of armored training for a year, noting that the unusual security situation requires focusing on using available tanks for the war effort.
