The Israeli military said on Tuesday that 24 soldiers had been killed during heavy fighting in Gaza in the past 24 hours, the largest daily death toll among Israelis since fighting broke out in the enclave.
The IDF spokesperson said that 21 of the 24 soldiers were killed when a rocket hit a tank protecting Israeli forces, and simultaneously, an explosion occurred in two two-story buildings where forces planted explosive devices with the aim of destroying the two buildings and the explosion caused the two buildings to fall on Israeli soldiers.
