The Houthi group announced the targeting of a US ship in the Gulf of Aden, placing the attack as part of the response to the US-British raids that targeted sites in Yemen a week ago, and to complement its support for the Palestinians against the backdrop of the Gaza war.

The developments come hours after the U.S. Middle East Command (CENTCOM) said an anti-ship ballistic missile hit a U.S.-owned Marshall Islands-flagged container ship in the southern Red Sea.

The Houthis have been carrying out attacks for weeks near the Bab al-Mandab Strait and in the Red Sea, targeting ships they say are linked to or destined for Israel, in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in light of the October 7 war between Hamas and Israel.
