Burkina Faso’s transitional president, Brahim Traoré, has declared that a minimum level of security is a prerequisite for the start of elections.
According to Burkinabe Information Agency, Traoré explained that national territory should be controlled to ensure that elections can be held peacefully.
Traoré stressed the importance of avoiding electoral manipulation, as he considers reforms to the electoral law before any electoral process takes place.
He stressed the need for candidates to present their political programs and explain their plans to citizens, stressing that at the end of the day, the performance of leaders will be evaluated by the people.
Traoré noted the importance of reforming electoral laws to curb “the practices of the political class”, stressing his commitment to tackling any manipulation of the democratic process.
At the end of his speech, the head of the transitional period stressed that strict measures will be taken against anyone proven to be involved in buying electoral consciences, while stressing that he will be excluded from participating in the elections if the charges are confirmed.
