The speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, said that the formation of a new unified government is likely to be reached within Ramadan, although this task is difficult.
Saleh said on Friday, in a television interview with Libya Future TV: “If we do not speed up the unification of institutions, division and corruption will increase.”
Saleh explained that the first step to go to the elections is to unify the government, because the High National Elections Commission will not be able to manage the electoral process under the management of two governments.
Saleh criticized the call of the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batele, for dialogue, describing it as aimed at “disrupting the march” because neither the constitutional declaration nor laws can be amended, explaining that Libya will need a year if the door is opened to amending the constitutional rule and electoral laws.
Regarding the position of the head of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, who refuses to hand over power, Saleh said that Dabaiba has become a party to the political rivalry and his government cannot supervise the elections, noting that if he wants to run for prime minister or presidency of the state, he must leave office.
